Hammer Strength made some beloved back machines. The low row is one of their most popular productions. What makes it nice is the steep upward pitch of the rowing movement. That makes that machine target the upper portion of the upper back, AKA, the traps and rhomboids. Most other low row machines don’t pull so steeply upward. That makes them better suited at targeting the lower portion of the lat. While being an upper back movement in general, the lower lat is very different from the traps and rhomboids. That’s why it’s so important to have a diversity of machines in the lifting toolbox so that you can precisely target the muscle group that you desire to target.
