Arthur Jones was the godfather of modern gym equipment. He was the inventor of Nautilus, which was synonymous with selectorized (pin-loaded equipment). His son, Gary Jones, rolled out Hammer Strength equipment, largely based of his father’s designs. MedX was the last line of equipment that Arthur Jones created. The Avenger line was its plate loaded version. This Avenger row is the pinnacle of Arthur Jones’s design career. It is as close to perfect as a machine can get. There are basically no adjustments (typical of a Jones design). You just get in and row. And man, does it work! The strength curve is perfect. It feels heavy throughout, but it’s smooth as can be. The rotating handles that pivot with you are really an ingenious design that makes up for the fact that the seat doesn’t move up and down. Jones was truly a mad-scientist. This overbuilt masterpiece is his greatest achievement.
